FOSS4Gコミュニティの皆様へ
このたび、OSGeo Foundation のConference Committeeおよび理事会での議論を経て、FOSS4G 2026の開催都市として、広島での開催が正式に決定しました。FOSS4Gは、オープンソース地理空間技術の発展と普及を目的とした世界最大級の国際カンファレンスです。これまで、FOSS4Gの精神である「誰もがアクセスできるオープンな技術と知識の共有」を大切にし、世界から多くの人が一同に会し、技術の最前線を共有しながらコミュニティの発展を支えてきました。
私達は、2025年の広島開催に向けて立候補しましたが、残念ながら1票差でニュージランドのオークランドでの開催が決定しました。ですが、広島の提案内容が高く評価されたために継続的に検討と議論が行われました。そしてこの度、FOSS4G 2026 Hiroshima の開催が決定されました。
この歴史ある国際カンファレンスを日本で開催できることを大変光栄に思い、皆様にご報告いたします。
広島開催の意義：地理空間技術を平和と持続可能な未来へ
地理空間技術は、都市計画、防災、環境保全、人道支援など、社会課題の解決に不可欠な役割を果たします。また、広島は、世界に向けて平和のメッセージを発信し続けてきた都市であり、FOSS4Gの理念とも深く結びついています。
今回の広島招致では、「地理空間情報を平和と持続可能な未来のために」というテーマを掲げ、これらの技術の可能性と社会的意義を提案してきました。FOSS4G 2026 Hirosimaでは、引き続き「地理空間情報を平和と持続可能な未来のために」というテーマを大切にしていきたいと考えています。
大会の成功に向けて
FOSS4G は、コミュニティの力によって支えられてきたイベントであり、日本国内外のコミュニティメンバーの皆様と一緒に、大会を作り上げていきたいと考えています。FOSS4G 2026 を素晴らしい大会にするため、様々な方々のご協力をお願いいたします。

Announcement: FOSS4G 2026 Hiroshima Officially Confirmed
To the FOSS4G Community,
After discussions within the OSGeo Board of Directors and the Conference Committee, we are honored to announce that Hiroshima has been officially selected as the host city for FOSS4G 2026.
FOSS4G is one of the world’s largest international conferences dedicated to the advancement and promotion of open-source geospatial technology. Rooted in the spirit of FOSS4G—open access to technology and knowledge for all—this conference has brought together people from around the world to share cutting-edge innovations and foster a vibrant community. We initially submitted a bid for Hiroshima to host FOSS4G in 2025, but unfortunately, we lost by a single vote to Auckland, New Zealand. However, Hiroshima’s proposal was highly commended and remained under active discussion and consideration. Finally, this led to the decision to host FOSS4G 2026 in Hiroshima. It is a great privilege to host this historic international conference in Japan, and we are delighted to share this news with you.
The Significance of Hosting in Hiroshima:
Geospatial technology plays a vital role in solving critical societal challenges, including urban planning, disaster management, environmental conservation, and humanitarian aid. At the same time, Hiroshima is a city that has continuously shared its message of peace with the world, making it deeply aligned with the core values of FOSS4G.
Throughout our bid for Hiroshima, we emphasized the theme of “Geospatial Information for Peace and a Sustainable Future”, demonstrating the potential and societal impact of these technologies. As we move forward with FOSS4G 2026 Hiroshima, we are committed to carrying this theme forward, using geospatial technology as a means to contribute to a better world.
Towards a Successful Conference:
FOSS4G has always been a community-driven event, and we look forward to building this conference together with members from Japan and across the world. To make FOSS4G 2026 Hiroshima a truly outstanding event, we kindly ask for your support and active participation in various capacities.
